Product details

Following in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims through mountain valleys and vineyards. The renowned author and Camino de Santiago researcher Peter Lindenthal describes the routes of the Santiago pilgrims in South Tyrol in his new pilgrimage guide. At the intersection of Central European transport routes between north and south, as well as east and west, hospices and pilgrimage churches in all parts of the country bear witness to the lively influx of pilgrims in past centuries, such as the hospice church of St. Johann in Spital/Sonnenburg in the Pustertal (12th century), the so-called Engelburg in Neustift near Brixen (1189-1199), the hospice at the Teutonic Order's commandery in Lengmoos on the Ritten (1211), the church and hospice of the Knights Hospitaller in the Münstertal (early 13th century), or the church of St. Jakob in Kastelaz near Tramin (11th century) with its famous Romanesque frescoes. The Camino routes are valley paths, so the Santiago pilgrim in South Tyrol also benefits from the mild climate.
