Product details

The name August Borsig still represents the industrial revolution in Prussia, particularly in locomotive construction. The legendary reputation that the entrepreneur, born in 1804 in Breslau, earned in Berlin extended far beyond the borders of Germany. From an early age, the path of the carpenter's son seemed predetermined: he was expected to follow in his father's footsteps and perhaps become a master builder for the king. However, in his heart, August Borsig burned with a passion for fire and iron—his deepest desire was to learn the trade of blacksmithing. Driven by the idea of catching up with the technological advancements of English and American industry and producing his own locomotives in Prussia, he founded his own machine engineering company at the age of 33, northeast of the Oranienburg Gate, in the so-called "Feuerland." In 1841, the first locomotive from the young entrepreneur was delivered.
