Product details

Alexej von Jawlensky's (1864-1941) landscapes, still lifes, and portraits are among the most significant works of Classical Modernism. The 40 paintings and 35 drawings, watercolors, and prints located in Chemnitz showcase the artist's entire development between 1905 and 1937, reflecting his uncompromising search for new painterly languages. This collection represents the third largest public collection of Jawlensky's oeuvre in the world and is being published in its entirety for the first time. Additionally, the catalog pays special attention to art technological aspects and questions of painting techniques, and it reconstructs and fully documents the solo exhibition of the artist held in Chemnitz in 1923 based on historical evidence.
