The Jeep Gladiator was a full-size pickup based on the SJ Jeep Wagoneer SUV. It was first introduced in 1962, and the Gladiator designations included: J200 (short-wheelbase trucks until mid-1965); J2000; J300 (long-wheelbase trucks until mid-1965); J3000; and J4000, the first model with the longer wheelbase of 131 inches (3,300 mm). Gladiators were available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and came with either a solid front axle or independent front suspension with optional dual rear axles. Gladiator trucks were available in the following configurations: cab and chassis, tow truck, flatbed, and chassis-mounted motorhomes with extended wheelbase. The Gladiator bed variants included: Townside, Thriftside (a step-side), and Stake Bed. The name Gladiator was dropped after 1971.
