What defines a person in 2017: their background, their religion, their Facebook profile? The search for identity in a highly interconnected and mediatized world seems relentless. Composer-performer Jennifer Walshe, however, refuses to be pinned down. Instead, she curated a collective of alter egos, traced testimonies of a possibly bygone Irish avant-garde, and proclaimed the "New Discipline" in 2016 - a plea for experimental music creation in constant pursuit of new paths. Performative aspects take center stage in a music that plays with semantic fragments. Where Walshe tears snippets from her virtual worlds, distorts them, and reassembles them, new interpretative possibilities emerge. Her often multimedia montages encourage a fresh, open listening experience.
