The English text in this Tanakh is a lightly updated version of the celebrated JPS translation from 1985. Wherever possible, the results of modern studies on the languages and culture of the ancient Near East have been applied to the biblical text, allowing for an English style that reflects the biblical spirit and language rather than the era of translation.
