The Jinsilu (Records of Reflection on the Obvious) was compiled in 1175 by Zhu Xi (1130-1200) and Lü Zuqian (1137-1181). Zhu Xi is regarded as the most influential representative of Neo-Confucianism. His school was initially called "Daoxue" (School of Dao) in China and later "Lixue" (School of Li). The terms "Dao" and "Li" are synonyms and refer to the ontological principle, the universal moral order underlying all things. The Jinsilu consists of 14 thematically organized chapters. Beginning with cosmological speculations, it describes the relationship between all-encompassing unity and the principle of duality, of stillness and movement, a world that unfolds from itself without a transcendent creator. The Jinsilu addresses the themes of learning and teaching.
