Product details

Johannes Holst is one of the most significant marine painters in Germany. He is highly regarded, far beyond his hometown of Hamburg. Holst was a self-taught artist, with nature itself as his teacher. He was multi-talented, building musical instruments and sailing yachts, and was a passionate sailor. Over seven decades, he created an impressive oeuvre of over two thousand paintings featuring themes from his homeland, Elbe fishing, and especially the great era of tall ships. His work is characterized by nautical knowledge and attention to detail. The paintings are in demand and highly valued.
