Seeker and teacher, painter and art educator - Johannes Itten was a highly reflective artistic personality, whose numerous theoretical writings and artworks reflect a great stylistic range. Constantly in dialogue with students and colleagues, as well as engaging with other cultures and artistic impulses, Itten created works in which he intensely explored color, its aura, contrasts, and forms. Inspired by Adolf Hölzel, his teacher at the Stuttgart Academy, Itten developed, among other things, the well-known theory of color types, whose significance extends far beyond art into everyday culture. The recognized Itten expert Christoph Wagner introduces the artist with his complex and symbol-laden work, spanning the arc from revolutionary Bauhaus teacher and founder of various art schools to art theorist.
