Product details

Our time, saturated with purely rationalistic thinking, seems to be ripe again for the thoughts of this early church mystic, whose life and name are unknown to us, but whom the well-known historian Endre von Ivánka, who passed away in 1974, brings closer to us through his excellent introduction as well as his sovereign selection and translation of the texts. A characteristic feature of the Areopagite theologian is to lead from the visible, the recognizable, from the conceptually graspable to the true essence of things, from the names that Holy Scripture and human reason give to God, to the mystical vision of Him whom no name can express. Dionysius is one of the fathers of Western spirituality, alongside Augustine, a guarantor for Thomas Aquinas in crucial theological questions. His magnificent conception of Christian thought remains a guiding principle for our time.
