Product details

With the automobile, the individual mode of transport of modernity emerges. It calls for new types of buildings, such as gas stations and multi-story garages. As early as 1907, Auguste Perret's Ponthieu garage in Paris becomes the first multi-story parking garage for automobiles completed on the European continent. In the 1920s, this new construction task becomes a testing ground for architects and engineers. All functional solutions still valid today were developed at that time: elevator parking garages, straight ramps, spiral ramps, half-level ramps, and both above-ground and underground garages. After World War II, mass motorization turns the architecture of parking into a challenge that remains ubiquitous today, with demands ranging from functionality to urban integration.
