The idyllic spa town of Bad Teinach in the Northern Black Forest owes its fame not only to the healing waters of its spring but also to a cultural peculiarity. The Württemberg princess Antonia (1613-1679), sister of Duke Eberhard III, commissioned a massive picture shrine in the Teinach Trinity Church in 1673, which, known as the "Kabbalistic Teaching Table," evoked astonishment, admiration, and just as much misunderstanding during the princess's lifetime.
