Landscape architecture can be more than aesthetically innovative: it can contribute to social integration, social stability, and a vibrant public life. How does a park become an intensely used stage, a well-frequented everyday place? What leads to the "blessing of liveliness" (Jane Jacobs)? And what makes a park urban? The Gleisdreieck Park in Berlin, developed between 2007 and 2014, was initiated by citizens and realized in dialogue with them. This publication presents the principles underlying the design of the park. It thus provides a toolbox for versatile, interaction-promoting, and sensually appealing urban parks. Furthermore, the book situates the park within contemporary landscape architecture and shows how visitors perceive the Gleisdreieck Park and its atmospheres.
