Youth is as much a representation of one's own youth as it is of someone else's. Youth is as much a description as it is a narrative: facts and fiction intertwine. There is the small town and its society; the first reality in the movie theater and the reality of war, that of the mother, of the fallen, of dreams, and of the pattern on the wallpaper. And the need, of course, the diverse need. As always with literary works, this prose must first be understood through its style, and only then through the events.
