Volume 6 of the Musil Complete Works includes the preliminary versions of the fragmentary monumental novel "The Man Without Qualities." Among other works: "The Spy" (1918-1920): The preparatory work dates back to Musil's youth; Achilles, the main character, becomes a Russian spy out of hatred for his father's world. "The Redeemer" (1921-1922): The original version of "The Man Without Qualities"; Anders, the hero, is the narrator of a biting satire on society and simultaneously its ironic redeemer. "The Twin Sister" (1923-1926): The first fully written version of the novel featuring the criminal love story between Anders and his sister Agathe, which was interrupted in May 1926 due to a serious illness. The versions preserved in the estate are composed into a readable text using a novel editing method based on drafts, with the closer they are in time to the starting point.
