The translator of desires

Product details
Ibn Arabi is one of the most significant mystical writers of the Islamic Middle Ages, comparable only to Hafiz, Rumi, and Omar Khayyam. Born in Andalusia, he traveled throughout the entire Arab world, undertook the pilgrimage to Mecca, and his grave in Damascus is now a place of pilgrimage. Arabi's poetic masterpiece titled "The Translator of Longings," of which only a few excerpts have been available to read so far, is published here for the first time in full in German. Stefan Weidner, known for his translations of Arabic poetry, demonstrates with this translation, informed by contemporary poetic methods, how modern and liberating these poems are. Religion and Eros merge into a whole and symbolically charge each other. The seemingly simple language leads the reader into unheard theological and erotic realms, where there are no taboos. Notes and an afterword complete the work.
