Product details

As "gay pig" is one of the most popular insults in German schoolyards, homophobia and sexual prejudice are everyday occurrences. This societal situation particularly burdens and disadvantages young people who are developing or discovering themselves as lesbian, bisexual, or gay. They often have (justifiable) fears of isolation, discrimination, and violence, especially from their peers. It was only with the abolition of Section 175 of the Penal Code that it became possible for youth work and youth services to address sexual prejudices and specifically target young lesbians and gays. Non-heterosexual youth remain an overlooked target group in youth work and youth services. This paper deals with the life situations of young lesbians and gays, their needs, and the possibilities and tasks of youth work.
