Social work is still too often understood as a national project. This introductory book outlines international connections, global challenges, and transnational perspectives of social work. The history of social work is usually presented as a narrative tied to individual nation-states. However, it can also be analyzed as a cross-border project in which international connections have identity-forming significance. In this book, social work is introduced as an actor in global social policy, and key methodological requirements for internationally comparative social work are outlined. Current examples are provided to illustrate how social work can position itself within these connections.
