The book investigates the supposed disappearance of punishment within educational sciences through historical-analytical reconstructions. Using educational lexicons and literature from the past 100 years, it traces the trends and transformations as well as negotiations regarding the boundaries of the educational. Legal perspectives on the purpose of punishment, along with sociological and psychological analyses of the (side) effects, broaden the view. The complex relationship between punishment and education, the effects of these practices, and the negotiations around the boundaries of the educational can be reconstructed through these discourses.
