Theoretically reflective and practice-oriented, this volume explores the potential of Hans Thiersch's concept of life-world orientation as a basis for action in the field of disability support. The goals of inclusion and participation pose fundamental challenges to the historically developed institutional structures of social welfare services for people with disabilities. In order to comply with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, there is a need for a new justification of professional action alongside structural reforms. Social work with people with disabilities can, as the central conclusion of this book suggests, be understood as support for a more successful everyday life within inclusive or inclusively developing communities. This opens up a perspective that challenges the system of differentiation and a professional self-understanding.
