This impressive text is a classic and part of the school curriculum in Catalonia, and it is now available for the first time in German translation. The antifascist Amat-Piniella fled to France in early 1939 to escape Franco, where he was interned in various camps before being deported to Mauthausen in 1941. In the years following the war, "K. L. Reich" was created, but due to censorship, the novel was not published until 1963. The author chose the path of fiction, allowing him to narrate the indescribable without claiming the truth of individual events. The text describes not only the horror and suffering but also the immediate power dynamics that emerged.
