X-ray plates, windows, photographs, towers, architectural models, and bones - all of them illustrate the tension between presentation and research in various contexts. The initiative "Denkbewegung" of this volume aimed to shift the focus from the scientific nature of exhibitions to the degree of design in research. Based on this shift in perspective, the contributions address the reciprocal relationships between modes of exhibition and scientific research, between ways of presentation and the generation of knowledge. Science in the museum and exhibition in the laboratory refer to a constantly occurring interplay, from which the initial tools are to be extracted and described here.
