Few other media seem better suited to visualize and preserve, communicate, and transform traumatic injuries than film. It makes them visible by displaying them as wounds, it opens them up, probes them, or bandages them. In doing so, it enriches them with new modes of interpretation and representation as well as symbolic patterns of meaning. This interdisciplinary and bilingual anthology, featuring contributions from scholars in the humanities and media studies, addresses the paradox of seemingly unspeakable and unrepresentable historical traumas. These allow for conscious remembrance and adequate response.
