Product details

Walter Benjamin rethought photography and received photographs in a unique way. His position is characterized by the introduction of questions regarding modes of perception and their mutability, significantly expanding the media discourse. Benjamin's 'Stories of Photography' are scattered; they encompass both a horror scenario in the photo studio around 1900 and reviews of contemporary picture books, as well as an engagement with the discourses prevalent around 1930 in his work. These various and rarely contradictory uses of the medium, which this book presents for the first time in their entirety, create an image of Benjamin's 'Use of Photography' through their arrangement and layering. Through numerous concrete readings, it is demonstrated how photography, for Benjamin, evolves into a medium that integrates into perceptual spaces.
