How to Make Learning to Write Easier for Children Learning to write is a fundamental process and of central importance in our writing-dominated society. Nevertheless, in 2011, there were about 7.5 million functional illiterates in Germany. These figures prompt reflection on how writing instruction can be improved and how children can be supported in learning to write. A new concept of learning to write, which allows children more freedom and individuality than has been common in traditional writing courses, shows the way to developing their own handwriting. Children should not be forced to adopt a standardized handwriting style.
