Bilingual education, known as Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) across Europe, has developed into an important form of instruction at all types of schools - from primary schools to secondary schools and vocational schools. After rather experimental beginnings, subject teaching in foreign languages has now become firmly established in many schools, with offerings ranging from individual foreign language lessons to modules and entire bilingual school branches with a solid curricular integration of bilingual instruction. In parallel, various facets and approaches to the didactics and methodology of bilingual education have developed, which today form the basis for teacher training and professional development. Additionally, there are now concrete teaching experiences available across the full range of subjects and in nearly all languages taught in Germany.
