Source work is the foundation of history education in Germany. The most important group of sources – both for teaching and research – are textual sources. Therefore, anyone teaching history must be able to competently work with textual sources. This book aims to provide support for that. The focus is pragmatic: it is not about general, theoretical, or historical explanations, but rather about practical guidance for designing work with textual sources on a sufficient conceptual basis. Those who read this book should have the foundational knowledge, basic attitudes, quality standards, and methods necessary for effective work with textual sources.
