Product details

Rebecca is in her late twenties and has left her life in Berlin behind to start anew in London. She wants to break through as a screenwriter, drink champagne with her girlfriends, go on dates with interesting men, read good books, throw glamorous dinner parties, and feel completely at home. Instead, she lives in a shared apartment that she can barely afford, spends her days writing in the library with her friends Anne and Melody, and tries to keep afloat with her job as a nanny. And she tries to mend her broken heart and forget Max. Forget how badly he treated her, how long she stayed with him despite everything, and how much she struggled with the role of stepmother to his son.

When she meets Jeppe, he reminds her nothing of Max, and so she embarks on a summer affair with him. Jeppe is older than she is and has already made most of the major decisions in his life: he has two children, is divorced, is a successful film producer, and has money. They dine together on the terraces of the best restaurants, take a weekend trip to Paris, and spend nights in luxurious hotel suites. Would that be a good life? Rebecca contemplates another fresh start. But on whose terms?

Summer and So is a novel about complicated relationships – both romantic and platonic – about insecurities and dreams, about what shapes, hurts, and holds us together. It is a novel about the question of what one can expect from life and what it demands in return. A novel about the feeling of being in your late twenties, still at the very beginning yet already too late.
