What a sound, so full of distance, mystery, and exoticism! It refers to that small group of islands in the eastern North Atlantic, located about 500 kilometers off the coast of Africa, which has been an independent republic since 1975. From the air, the Cape Verde Islands resemble pearls of a chain that has slipped into the Atlantic, immediately evoking images of palm-fringed beaches and peaceful island romance. Both can indeed be experienced, but Cape Verde has much more to offer, as it possesses a unique landscape, cultural, and historical profile that can be explored through trips and hikes along breathtaking cliffs, through rugged rock and volcanic landscapes, or fertile valleys.
