Product details

In modern times, the question of identity holds special significance. Answers to the question "Who am I?" are increasingly less shaped by cultural traditions. This loss can be interpreted philosophically as a gain, as it opens our eyes to our human situation. However, the currently popular approach of viewing the individual as the starting point for the question of identity overlooks the conditions of bodily existence. Works by Merleau-Ponty and Waldenfels demonstrate that as embodied beings, we are always oriented towards the reality that surrounds us and connected to others who live with us. Identity thus proves to be intertwined in a dynamic that always transcends it. We are never entirely ourselves; the self and the other cannot be separated. Phenomenological analysis reveals that connectedness.
