Product details
Ute Gahlings combines corporeal phenomenological and feminist positions to develop the concept of the gendered body for the analysis of gender-specific experiences. The theoretical foundation of a phenomenology of gendered bodily experiences is supplemented by exemplary studies. A topography of the female body traces the ways and circumstances of bodily sensing. Individual analyses incorporate subjective involvement in specific situations of the female biography and address, in light of the possible interventions in previously inaccessible spheres of the body within technical civilization, the influences of gender-specific bodily experiences on bodily integrity. In this work, the author achieves nothing less than a first comprehensive investigation of female corporeality guided by the concept of the sensing body.
