Product details

How does an adventure begin? I sit in a very quiet, high room in the library of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. With these sentences, bestselling author Cees Nooteboom once again takes the reader into the world of art and describes his approach to the work of a man who never actually wanted to be an artist: Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932), trained in sculpture and drawing, as well as a sensitive and talented self-taught photographer, was a teacher at the School of the Berlin Museum of Decorative Arts and later a professor at the United State Schools for Fine and Applied Arts. He showed his students examples from the plant world to cultivate their aesthetic sensibility and develop their sense of ornamentation. For this purpose, he photographed freshly cut plants in natural light, which he arranged in a frame.
