Karl Fred Dahmen (1917-1981) is considered one of the most significant artists of German Informel. As a painter, graphic artist, and object artist, he created an extraordinarily comprehensive and versatile body of work. In celebration of the artist's 100th birthday, this volume offers a representative selection of his works, accompanied by knowledgeable texts about the artist and an extensive photographic documentation. The exploration spans various groups of works, starting with the so-called terrestrial images of the 1950s, characterized by open-pit mining and a dark aesthetic, through the montage images of the 1960s made from leather straps, bones, hair tufts, and hard metal, to the scriptural, almost monochromatic furrow images of the 1970s and 1980s.
