Physics explains the world differently than biology or psychology. But how can we determine the relationship between physics and the individual sciences, each of which pertains to a limited area of the world? Michael Esfeld and Christian Sachse argue for two theses: Firstly, both physics and the individual sciences deal with causal structures. Against this background, it is secondly possible to develop a position that does justice to both - the epistemological claim of physics, as articulated in fundamental and universal theories, and the contribution of the individual sciences to understanding the world, which is expressed in their own classifications that cannot be replaced by physical classifications but can be systematically related to them.
