The peregrine falcon can be a resident, partial migrant, or migratory bird, depending on the geographical location of its nesting site, and only the subspecies from the far north are true peregrine falcons, which undertake vast distances to their wintering grounds in the tropics. The bird prefers to choose a nesting site that offers a wide view, often on cliffs near rivers, by the sea, or on islands. It also inhabits human structures, ruins, towers, or quarries.
