Peter Härtling, born in 1933 in Chemnitz, worked as an editor for newspapers and magazines. In 1967, he became the chief editor of S. Fischer Verlag in Frankfurt am Main and served as the managing director from 1968 to 1973. Since 1974, he has worked as a freelance writer. The entire literary works of Peter Härtling are available from Kiepenheuer & Witsch, with his latest publications being "Liebste Fenchel! Das Leben der Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn in Etüden und Intermezzi," published in 2011, and "Tage mit Echo. Zwei Erzählungen," published in 2013. Peter Härtling received numerous awards, most recently the Hessian Culture Prize in 2014 and the Elisabeth-Langgässer Prize in 2015. Peter Härtling passed away on July 10, 2017.
