A perpetual motion machine of fantasy. It could be the story of a dictator suffering from agoraphobia who has himself doubled. It could be the story of the double who, in turn, has himself doubled. But above all, it is the story of the author, who dreams of it all while lying in a hammock. And it is a hymn to the hammock. Manuel Martins Pereira da Ponte comes to power through a murder in a Brazilian province. However, he cannot enjoy it, as a sorceress reads from his palm that he will be lynched by an angry mob in a public square. To escape this fate, Pereira seeks a double to take on the role of the dictator while he tries to cure his agoraphobia in Europe. Soon, the double is also dissatisfied with his role: he seeks a double of his own, who in turn gets a double.
