Product details

Rockets, cannons, body fragments, collages, stencils, bomb images, crazy colors - all of this shapes the visual worlds of Kiki Kogelnik, born in Graz in 1935. After a childhood in Carinthia and her years of study in Vienna, she moved to the USA in 1961 and settled in New York around 1962. It is therefore no coincidence that her work reflects the canon of East Coast pop, embodied by her male colleagues at the time. However, unlike their play with materials or their fetish for brands, the young Austrian aimed for consciousness expansion and from the very beginning viewed the connection between a love for technology and a conqueror mentality in pop with a highly critical eye. This is evident in her paintings, which can be interpreted either as critical statements or as seemingly naive testimonies of euphoria.
