Product details

Mount Kilimanjaro is a myth: it is not only the highest mountain in Africa but also the largest mountain massif at the equator, although "Njaro" means small hill in Kiswahili. It is of volcanic origin, and its summit, which is nearly 6,000 meters high, is always snow-covered. However, Mount Kilimanjaro is also a political issue: as late as the mid-19th century, there was debate in Europe about whether a mountain so far south in Africa could bear snow. German missionaries had claimed this, and an English explorer mocked them as foolish. This marks the beginning of the appropriation of a region and the competition among European colonizers. In the end, the entire area temporarily becomes a German colony, with Mount Kilimanjaro as Germany's highest peak. Additionally, Mount Kilimanjaro is an object of longing: adventurers and explorers in the 19th century attempted to measure the mountain.
