In order to incite their own population against the German adversary and particularly to influence the American public, the British intelligence invented the tale of German soldiers allegedly chopping off the hands of numerous children and committing other atrocities after the invasion of Belgium. As a result, war propaganda portrayed the Germans as bloodthirsty Huns that the free world needed to defend itself against. The war behind the scenes raged on many fronts. This book delves into this underground war using European and American secret documents. Just a few months after the outbreak of World War I, it was clear to those informed on both sides of the warring nations that this war could not be decided militarily for the time being. Both sides were now making efforts.
