King's Stork Children
German, Alexander Osang, 2012Product details
Andreas Hermann, in his early 40s, has spent the first half of his life in East Germany. After numerous professional failures following the reunification, he lives in a tiny apartment in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg and works as a one-euro jobber on a cultural program for the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. He is tasked with reenacting the events of 1989 with a group of unemployed intellectuals. Andreas Hermann's employment agency is adjacent to a development of white townhouses built at the Königstor for affluent residents. There lives Ulrike Beerenstein, who works in one of the many new office spaces in the city. Every morning, she watches Andreas Hermann from her window. When her husband leaves for a business trip, they begin an affair: Andreas Hermann enters the white townhouse like a new world.
