To estimate the possible energy and power density of the aqueous Li-air battery, a physically grounded model was developed that for the first time also takes into account the microstructure. Parameters such as solid/liquid interfacial resistances were determined using a specially designed setup. Simulations based on the obtained model showed that even with conservative estimates, a doubling of the specific energy of today's Li-ion batteries is realistic.
