Oak, sweet chestnut, and black locust can generally be used as round timber for load-bearing components. Their high strength and durability are advantageous. However, the natural shape of the trunk poses challenges in estimating load-bearing capacity and designing connections. The research work includes fundamental approaches to these issues, focusing on modeling the compressive load-bearing capacity of naturally grown round timber and the design of connections.
