A prerequisite for reliable localization in rail transport is geometric maps of the track network. These often do not exist. Manual mapping methods are associated with high costs. The use of vehicle-internal sensors provides a solution. Their automated processing requires simultaneous localization of the vehicle while mapping the environment. Dependencies between vehicle movement and the map are taken into account in this way.
