Self-drilling wood screws are often used for connections in timber construction. These can often be arranged with small distances between them and to the edges of the components. By adhering to minimum distances and minimum wood thicknesses, failure of the wood due to splitting should be prevented. In the context of this work, a method was developed that allows for more efficient and reliable determination of the requirements for distances and wood thicknesses than previously possible.
