Cross-laminated timber (CLT) has relatively high shear and transverse tensile strengths compared to glued laminated timber. Components made from CLT are therefore less susceptible to cracking and exhibit greater robustness. As part of a research project, the load-bearing behavior of CLT beams with notches, openings, and transverse connections, as well as beams with edges cut at an angle to the grain direction, was investigated, and design approaches for the different beam forms were developed.
