At the center of this book is the so-called psychosomatic processing structure: a constellation of processing processes that are typical for clients with certain psychosomatic disorders, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Clients often struggle to set boundaries, have difficulty saying "no," and do not advocate for their rights. After a detailed description, a method for empirically capturing this structure is presented. Subsequently, therapeutic strategies of clarification-oriented psychotherapy are thoroughly discussed, which therapists can use to effectively address this structure: providing information to clients, motivating clients, addressing avoidance, and other therapeutic approaches. The book is complemented by a presentation of previous empirical results regarding the effectiveness of the described therapy.
