Cheerful, optimistic, and carefree, Julius and his friends approach the taboo subject of death. While the adults shy away out of fear, the children take action: they accompany their teacher until the very end. Klara Meindert is the fourth-grade teacher, and the children like her very much. However, she is seriously ill, and everyone has recently learned that she will not recover. As long as she can, she wants to stay with the children in the classroom so they can gradually say goodbye to each other. The parents would prefer that Ms. Meindert no longer come to school. Julius and his friends want to make a farewell gift for their teacher and decide to build her a coffin. A colorful, cheerful one that she doesn’t have to be afraid of. When Julius' mother finds out what is happening in the shed, she quickly puts an end to it. She believes that children should not be confronted with death.
