Wilhelm Heider from Pörnbach in Upper Bavaria went to war in 1914 with a Bavarian field artillery regiment. Just a few weeks later, he was severely wounded and ended up in the hospital in Ingolstadt. He had to stay there for almost two years. His report, written at that time, provides unique insights into the atmosphere at the beginning of the war and the inner workings of a military hospital from the perspective of a patient.
