Product details
Classism is a term that is still relatively unknown, used to describe the individual, institutional, and cultural discrimination and oppression based on actual, presumed, or attributed social or educational status. For example, people living in poverty are often stereotypically assumed to exhibit violent behavior or alcoholism, and this is portrayed in the media, despite these phenomena occurring across all classes. The term classism describes the experience of personal discrimination faced by individuals as a societal, structural problem. It thus complements and overlaps with the analysis of racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination. For the first time, an introduction to this concept is now available in book form in German. The authors discuss the origins of the term classism and its everyday implications and resistance.
